Össur announces 2017 #MyWinningMoment Contest Winner

Alexander Schwartz’s Cheetahs Changed His Life and Perspective of Mobility

Alexander Schwartz, a bilateral amputee who was born with fibular hemimelia, is the 2017 winner of Össur’s #MyWinningMoment online contest, the company announced today. Schwartz, a resident of St. Louis, Missouri, says the moment he started embracing his adversity was the winning moment that changed his life. He credits his job working on a TV show as helping him share his story and connect with others, but it was receiving his Cheetah running blades that made the singular difference in his physical mobility as well as in his perspective on life. "After feeling the agility of the Össur Cheetahs, I no longer felt like there was something missing," Schwarz says. "After 20 years of growing up as a double amputee, I finally was able to feel like nothing could hold me back." As the winner of this year’s #MyWinningMoment contest, Schwartz and his guest will enjoy a four-day, three-night trip to breathtaking Reykjavik, Iceland – home to Össur’s headquarters and some of Europe’s largest glaciers and numerous active volcanoes.

"This year’s #MyWinningMoment contest was the biggest yet, and we were tremendously inspired while reviewing the entries, which allowed us to celebrate so many winning moments for people around the world," said Jon Sigurdsson, Össur’s President and CEO, who noted that over 400 entries were received in all. "Knowing that our upper- and lower-limb technologies enable people to experience even greater achievements and enjoy life without limitations is tremendously rewarding to all of us at Össur," Sigurdsson concluded.
